JULIE'S CONNECTION

For 15+ years Julie had been searching for a program to help her overcome her addiction to alcohol. She had tried dozens of programs, but had yet to find one that created lasting change. After many attempts had failed, Julie's husband shared a bold truth with Julie that moved her off the path of addiction and onto a path of recovery. "Julie, you've done all the programs, you have all the tools. What you need is Jesus." With this new realization, Julie leaned on her connection with the Holy Spirit to guide her to a program that would lead her as much in recovery as it would to the feet of Jesus.
Then one day she picked up a Great Deals magazine and found the Henry County Women's Recovery Center ad. "It was like the ad jumped off the page to me. The Holy Spirit led me here!" Julie exclaimed.
Since November, Julie has been working through the HCWRC program. Julie recognizes that getting and remaining sober takes work and a connection to Jesus. "I can't do it without Him." she says. "People will disapoint you, God will not. People will abandon you, God will not. That is what I have learned here. I can put 100% of my trust in Jesus and He is faithful all the time."
Julie has lived with the consequences of alcoholism, but she doesn't have to any more. Julie wants all others in Henry County to know that now there is help for women in addiction here. No longer do women have to go to Indianapolis or farther for help. "If you are willing to put in the time and work, this is the best program for addicts." Julie added.
EQUINE CONNECTIONS

What do you get when you introduce a group of broken women to a band of horses? Instant connection and healing. In April 2025, the Henry County Women's Recovery Center started Equine Connection Classes. Every other Wednesday, women participating in the program are invited out to the Memorial Park Stables to work and connect with horses. This type of connection brings peace, joy and a calming presence to the otherwise chaotic and tense feelings of addiction.
Tristen Carls, a faithful volunteer of HCWRC, leads the equine sessions. Tristen explained it this way "When a woman walks in feeling maybe a little stressed and overwhelmed, or going through some type of internal struggle, they seem to find a way to work through it while working with their horse. Everyone seems to calm and relax. When they walk out of the arena, they are visibly lighter and full of gratitude."
The Equine Connection Classes are equipping the women with courage to tackle the difficult, new challenges of healing and sobriety. They leave each session with a sense of accomplishment and renewed strength to "run with endurance the race that is set before them." (Hebrews 12:1)
We thank Tritsten Carls and all of our faithful volunteers for pouring out their lives to see recovery and restoration accomplished in our women.
